The Patrician High School also offers its students the opportunity to take part in non-sporting activities. All students are encouraged to participate in these activities which include: the educational school tour, art exhibitions and trips to art galleries, debating, chess, quiz competitions, Young Pioneers Club, Outdoor Education weekends, Gaisce etc. The availability of such activities may vary from year to year and indeed new activities may be introduced. Extra-curricular activities are often advertised by means of the school’s notice boards. Students are advised to survey these notice boards on a regular basis.
SCHOOL TOURS – High School students learn about Europe by visiting the other member states. Countries visited include France, Spain, Holland, Scotland, Wales, England, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Austria. Cities include Amsterdam, Barcelona, Milan, Paris, Rome, Florence, Cologne, Innsbruck and Venice to name but a few.

CHESS – The Patrician High School enjoys many energetic and highly successful chess activities. There are in-house competitions and clubs for First Years, Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle students. The High School also enters teams in the ESB Checkmate Competition (All Ireland Finalists in 2002), the Drogheda Chess Concentrates and the National Secondary Schools Chess Competition
French - Le Club de Français (French Club) - Every Monday at lunch time the French Club takes place in the French room from 1.10pm – 2.40pm. It is geared towards Junior Cycle students and it offers the opportunity to enhance what they are learning in class through the use of language board games, puzzles and card games. Some of the materials used include Bingo, Guess Who, Boggle, Scrabble, Battleship, Rory’s Story Cubes, Hangman and Tic Tac Boom. The French Club also hosts the annual ‘Quiz de Français’ for 1st and 2nd year students in which each class is represented by a team of 4.
Theatre - Over the years trips to the theatre (particularly The Helix and The Iontas Theatre) have been organised for students. They have seen productions of Shakespearean plays, “Juno and The Paycock”, “Dancing at Lughnasa”,”How Many Miles to Babylon” etc.
Young Social Innovators - The YSI Social Innovation ACTION Programme is a youth-led, team-based, action focused programme for young people aged between 15-18 years based in schools, youth reach, youth services or youth groups throughout Ireland. Working in teams of 5-25 innovators are challenged to identify a social issue of importance to them and to come up with and implement creative solutions. To date over 55,000 young people have taken part in this programme and have tackled a wide range of issues including justice & human rights, democracy, health, community, the environment, and many more!
